Tenth Day

Well almost forgot today but here I am.

Today was our second lesson, decided to go with lesson fairly neutral, and today it was 'The American Short Story' The lessons in this subject are broken down into sections, a lecture, group work and class discussion. That's at it's broadest sense of course in reality each individual lesson will be different. Today we were focusing on more of the back ground to the subject, we were given information about different opinions on America from around the time it was founded.

I've ordered the books that are required which Amazon promises me will be here tomorrow so then I can start reading for this part of the course.

After doing laundry time ran away so diner was soup, a sausage roll, flapjack and chocolate.

Do better tomorrow I promise.

Good night.

Ninth Day

Today was the first day of lectures, well seminars, well tutorials. Hey I don't know what you're supposed to call them. Anyway today it was Writing Media. We started simply by talking to the person next to us about ourselves, they then jotted down the information. The process was then reversed and each of us then wrote a 100 word paragraph on the other telling it almost like a story. We also got basic information regarding the course over the year, some of it confusing but then things always are when abstract.

The theme bar for this week is Chinese, a very good meal it was too.

Eighth Day

Today was Sunday, and as I look at the number eight up there I wander how long I'll manage to keep this up! Started a bit more quickly today and actually got out at a good time to try once more to find the shops. Today mission successful!

I found all the shops I needed and realised my mistake. I had been expecting them to be only a few minutes walk away, ten at the most and in Treforest! Where as in fact they are in Ponty!

Tomorrow the work begins. First on the agenda: Writing Media.

Seventh Day

Today was Saturday and so naturally there were no lectures, seminars, or tutorials. I didn't exactly get an early start but then that's allowed at weekends. It was at early evening that I decided to go to the shops and pick up a few supplies. This was not as easy as it sounds. I have seen over this week people coming into the kitchen with bags from many different well know stores. Therefore I expected to come across one in whatever direction I walked in, I was wrong. After two hours or so of walking in all the directions I could think of I gave up and returned to the university.

Rather embarrassing as those people who have found the stores are foreign, surely I a native should know my way around better! Anyway I'll try again tomorrow.

Sixth Day

Today was the freshers fair. The usual sort of thing, many stores with freebies! Having attended debate club at high school I decided to join the debating society. Hopefully that will be interesting, something to put on a CV if noting else. Didn't do much else for the rest of the day, talked in the kitchen with a couple of people.

Tomorrow is the first Saturday of University. I have no idea what I'm going to be doing!

I suppose that some might say that that is exciting, well we'll see.

Fifth Day

I suppose you could say that today didn't exactly go to plan. We waited in the foyer of the building for a study skills session. Harry and I waited as did a couple of others from our group. So when the doors opened we filled in. Into the wrong room which quickly became apparent when they started talking about sports! Well we didn't feel we could just leave so we stayed and listened to an irrelevant talk for half an hour! Afterwards we met Nick and discovered the room we were supposed to be in was just next door. In our defence these two rooms have three doors, we went in the middle one. Literally thirty centimetres from being correct!

Anyway we also had a party of a sort with our faculty and I think most issues are now smoothed out!

Tomorrow it's the freshers fair. I hope to find some interesting societies to attend.

Wednesday 24 September 2008

Fourth Day

Today we had talks on the library, students union and IT facilities among other things, some of it a little confusing. However it will be less so when it's put into practice. Tomorrow I've just a couple of things to go to and then everything starts on Monday. All rather scary really.

Spend the evening in the kitchen talking to people in my dorm block, they seem to be from all over the world; Germany, Hong Kong India, which is quite interesting.

Well bed time now.

Tuesday 23 September 2008

Third Day

Today we made our module choices, not as easy as it sounds. We were given talks by various tutors telling us about their particular topics. We also had to put our timetable together so my choices are:

Writing Media: A compulsory module
Starting to Write: Also Compulsory
The American Short Story
IT for Writers
Language and Society
and
Scriptwriting for the Media.

So those are my choices and I hope they will be very informative and dare I say it ... fun.

Secound Day

Well I had my first full day at univercity today. I've now enrolled and am officially a student at Glamorgan univercity. I've pretty much made my choices now and met a few people on my course. The rest of this week will be more induction until we, hopefully know the place inside and out.

Tomorrow I get more information about my course and make final choices.

The Evening

Nerves are beginning to slip away now and I think I'm starting to relax into the idea of university. The trick now will be to start and make friends. But then I haven't had my first lesson yet! Tomorrow night I shall most probably head out the the military themed party.

First Day

After the mad panic I've been in over the past couple of weeks I have now moved into my univercity accommodation at the University of Glamorgan. The room is nice and will suite me for my first year at uni, tomorrow I will enroll and have my hall induction.

This blog will be a diary of sorts as well as having stories and other items of interest or disinterest. To anyone reading this who is starting univercity; I wish you every success in your course!
